Did a DIY differential fluid change on my 2014 Toyota Hilux this afternoon because I noticed a slight rumble on corners. When I pulled the drain plug it had a bunch of grey sludge on the magnet which I expected, but I also found a few small metal chunks and one piece that looked like maybe a chunk of a tooth or bearing cage. No major noises yet but now I'm terrified to drive it. I know this means something is failing inside but I'm hoping I caught it early enough to fix damaged diff Dubai without needing a whole replacement. I was looking at Dynostar's differential page and they seem to do internal inspections and selective rebuilds. Has anyone here pulled metal chunks out of their diff and gotten away with just replacing the bearings or a single gear instead of the whole unit? Or am I just delaying the inevitable and should start shopping for a used axle? Feeling pretty stressed about this. Also how long can I drive with metal floating around in there?
